My new play group has NEVER played Descent, but they love HeroQuest so I think it's a good fit.
I have Descent 1st Edition as well as the 1st 2 expansions and RtL. I never got the 2 expansions after RtL. Unless I'm mistaken, they are BOTH expansions for RtL and don't have single dungeon Quests (like the boxes before RtL)?
What I was thinking of doing is introducing them to Descent through the original box and the first two expansions (basically playing a lot of fun single quest adventures), then buying 2nd Edition rather then going through RtL.
What do you all think/feel? Will the switch from 1st to 2nd be too jarring for players who are "new" to Descent? Do you think it's a dumb idea to play the single-quest adventures from the original "big box" and 1st 2 expansions before switching systems for a campaign style game?
Just curious!
