I was looking at the first edition of descent and wondered why the creators removed the skill system from the first edition. It seems to me that it gave players better and more customization options for their characters. Especially when they added the experience system to such cards. The only reasons I see to use the system used in the second edition are:-more thematic skills that fit nice together
-no overpowered card combination and easier class balancing
I realize that I'm probably wrong, because they would probably have changed it for a good reason. I'dd love to hear what you guys have to say about it.
