Thread: Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition):: General:: Another player mat for heroes, opinions welcome

by SirWillibald

Hi everybody,

after some encouraging feedback for my monster health tracker and because my juniors get a little confused with all the cards they have to handle, I spent another two hours designing a player mat for heroes.

There are several other mats to be found in the file section which aren't bad at all, but since I enjoy doing something myself, I created another one. Take a look:

As with my monster health tracker I went with "less is more" (does this phrase even exist in english? Don't know, here in germany it does), so you find only a few colors, some minor text and streamlined layout. I omitted some things on purpose (words like "fatigue/health token", "class cards", because they are obvious if you know the game).

The active cards in use have a tap area included, needs some space, but I'd hate if tapping them messes the other cards up. If you need to tap class cards, simply use the outer spots IV and VIII.

The mat is rather big (you have to tape two A4 sheets together or print on A3), but our table is rather large and this way everything can be moved without problems.

The search and condition cards are meant to be stacked with offset.

Question from me (I'm still new to the game):
- Are 8 class cards to much?
- How often do the heroes get more than one condition at a time?
- The right and left hand spot might be odd when using double handed weapons, because it might mislead to the assumption that the other hand is allowed to carry an additional weapon. No probem for me, though, but for anybody else? It just makes fine layout this way.

Looking forward to your feedback, an A4 pdf will follow in time.

Cheers,
Christian aka SirWillibald
