Thread: Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition):: General:: Help deciding between Shadows of Brimstone or Descent (using solo/coop variants, like Nerdook and RedJak)

I'm really torn between these two games for my next cooperative dungeon crawler. I'm having a hard time figuring out which would be best for playing on my own and partnered coop with my wife.

Descents plusses to me are a good value and an already established pile of expansions. I would likely purchase it with Labyrinth, Wyrm, and Trolleys for variety. There are also more than a couple fantastic looking coop variants that would be my sole firm of playing this game (specifically Nerdook and RedJak). The mechanics look very fun and tactical, with the skill system and items. It also doesn't bother me to purchase this with the intention to only play with variants, as long as it is a well crafted one.

For Shadows of Brimstone, it is naturally built as a coop game, so that's a big plus. But I am afraid I may not appreciate the combat mechanics very much... It seems extremely luck based with a ton of dice rolls for every round of combat and every other facet of the game. I know Descent is dice based too, but seems so much more streamlined. I'm just afraid it won't have enough strategy to hook me, even though it looks fantastic as a big campaign adventure game.

Can anyone offer up some advice on swaying me one way or another?
