I am not sure on what this post is about ... surprise Be patient and follow me if you have time to spent...
Just some rantings on playing and talking about this game.
Surely I read a lot more about Descent that I had played it.
There are really many people that play and talk about this game.
In 3 months i have had a full immersion in PBF, to discover rules and playing styles.
On strategy and review forum (also in Fantasy site) comparisons on classes, on descent 1 , on Imperial assault ....
I never played Descent 1. I read the rules, but the dungeon games not ispire me.
I emotionally prefer the side of tiles in Descent where is open terrain (may be i suffer some form of claustrophobya ? gulp), but rationlly i tell to myself that i like maps to see lands and strategize on them.
I like fantasy theme and magic and I have a(logical) reason. I Like to do in games things that in life i cannot do or better i like to exist (for some time) in a world where some laws can alterated following some superior lore about them, that i discovered.
So fantasy (or good science fiction) theme for the frame and campaign mode, or some system of levelling, to show the process of this grow.
Then there are the thigs to do in the game.
People have observed that Descent II is a game of skillful management of actions to resolve some issues from the quest with 2 sides asymetrical wishes on different things (Heros and OL).
Then in campaign(and not in a victory points system) the most important thing is the final challenge. All the precedent win or lost encounters are just a preparation to have some better tools to win: A liutenant or a group of monster, a relic, some equipment and some xp spent in ability or cards for the OL. Or the choice of successive step of campaign
I just know Shadow Rune (and some fan made campaigns),but for the OL there is just some quests that gives him more xp (and a very rigid system to spent them). The heros are a litte more free to spent theese xp
For the players equipment is the most aleatory things. You must earn gold searching and spent this gold on a ristrict selection of items (act 1) till after interlude (where you can choose)and go on on next quest with ristrict selection of act II items.

Now this is the thing that i like less of this game.
Yes sure , the player have to do something in a game further to kill things (that move or are still cool).
But that earn gold in collect items (and in every quest some very distrat mage or alchemist have put (always the same !) in every room stamina ,health potions ,dolls) is boring. snore
Surely you can tell to yourself that this loot is coming from the monster that you have slain or make run away from you, but that a treasure hunter or a respectable thief have to work on stamina and dolls( except that treasure chest thas was so difficult to find that a class is create just for that !) and that your fence have so little choice is amazing in a fantasy world ...)

So in this management ( I hate euro game theory arrrh)!) of actions to gain " dolls " is more important for a long time that to win some quests.

I have think about to change this thing, but not sure what is better.
For example an hero could earn gold if he resolve the quest in a specific time.
And the items that are possible to find have to be more differentiated and ,or, more useful to that specific quest (for example a map where is written where the objective is or not is ) or to carry in another quest ( I really ,if not for the system of changing in gold not see because i cannot conserve one(not more) stamina potion for next quest ( expire date before final ) The philosophy of the fantasy player (Or is just me ?) is to do more things.
May be with different conditions and more difficult probability of success, but never less.

Speaking of things that i should change....So there are some ability that to me are not fun to play.
Make discard one card from The Ol once is fun, more is tedious.
The role of healer ,or of searcher, the prayer of peace are boring too if allowed systematically.
An apothecary should have the possibility to prepare potions if he find some ingredients in the search. A disciple has to find a (exterior or interior) place to ask his(her) God help.
I found many of the token based classes (and OL infector) too much automatic and in contrast with some more "autentic" ability. If a Berseker can gain a +1 damage spending a surge and an action it is really absurd that a normal hero could for free obtain the same effect from a Champion.
Familiars is a lot of fun, but have to help the hero not steal glory from him ..

Wait, now am I contradict myself ? Were not more option more fun ? Yes, but not at the cost of make less fun the Berseker !
Are you a Champion ? If you over killed a Monster with an amazing roll you get the valor not just because you found an Horn !

Thanks to the people that read till here !
