Thread: Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition):: General:: Playing through first campaign - is it unbalanced? Expansions any different?

Hey everyone,

My game group is playing through The Shadow Rune for the first time. We have 4 heroes and 2 overlords (no game changes have been made with a second overlord. It's simply another brain to consult with). We're going to do the Interlude, The Shadow Vault, tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone thought the campaign was unbalanced in favor of the overlords? It seems like the overlord has too many advantages unless the heroes get perfect dice rolls. The overlord also gets to use two shadow dragons seemingly all the time. The heroes in my group are getting really frustrated with how easily the overlords win, so much so that myself and my girlfriend (as the overlords) decided to not use the shadow dragons anymore just to give the heroes a fighting chance. And even then, it's a steep uphill battle.

Do my heroes just suck at cooperating and forming a strategy?

Furthermore, I mentioned to them we probably wouldn't play another campaign and that I would let the game just sit on the shelf, but then I thought about the expansions. Do any of the expansions feel more balanced? I want a close battle feel, not the smearing the overlords are doing right now (even without dragons). I get that I am the all powerful overlord and I'm supposed to be overpowered, because I'm the villain, y'know? The heroes are supposed to struggle and ultimately win. That's writing-101, right? But my heroes just aren't having fun. Would an expansion change this?
