So I used to host a game group and we ended up going through 4 campaigns. SR(twice), LoR & SoN. I had to move a few years ago and got out of it but am starting up a new group with several guys that have never played before. I never won a campaign (did win some quest)but that doesn't matter to me I still enjoy running the game and playing with friends. I am looking to start with the best experience possible for my new group so I wanted to get some input on a few items. All expansions in possession - Base Game, Lair of the Wyrm, Labyrinth of Ruin, The Trollfens, Shadow of Nerekhall, Manor of Ravens and Mist of Bilehall. Also several hero and monster packs. Lieutenant decks - Merick Farrow, Alric Farrow, Valyndra.
Campaign - I don't currently have Heirs of Blood but after reading reviews and these forums I decided to go with this one. Would this be a good choice for new heroes since it has more story and balance?
Rumors - Having so many expansions / mini expansions & hero and monster packs I have tons of extra quest. I never actually did any rumors during a campaign just a few one offs and 1 play through of Lair of the Wyrm. Do people like to add these to the game to extend the length of campaign for more fun? Do they seem to take away from the greater picture of the campaign? Do they make the game too unbalanced with the extra loot? If I were to add one in which would be enjoyable and go along with Heirs of Blood?
Overlord Deck - My most 2 successful decks were Warlord and Infector. I actually have quite a bit of fun playing the infector it was not TOO successful but always tended to scare the players with what could happen to them. With all these expansions I have tons of overlord decks. Which would be a good choice to give challenge for heroes and fun for everyone?
Plot Deck - I actually had less success in a campaign running a plot deck than without. After reading some forums that seems to not be the normal case with others usually having more success with. With these decks (The Fallen Elite, Cursed by Power and Dragon's Greed.) Would it be harder for the heroes with one of these decks or should I go straight overlord deck?
Secret Rooms - In my last group we did the secret rooms but I always felt they just unnecessarily increased the length of the games without a ton to show for it. Does anybody else just leave these out, or do people usually seam to enjoy the random extra room with chance of extra loot?
I know this is a lot of questions but I just have so much stuff I want to utilize it encase some of the people don't stay for more than one campaign and give them the most enjoyment (and challenge) they could have.
