I've been really enjoying Descent 2E. The game play is very smooth, and the rules were much easier to pick up than I thought they would be. Love the idea of a campaign and the general quest development.

Having said all that, I had my first mediocre game the other day. My son and I played Castle Daerion, with me as the OL and him playing two heroes. We got to the second encounter and the game became very dull. I basically surrounded Sir Palamon (who, if I'm reading the rules correctly, can't move in the scenario) with my monsters and started pounding away while the heroes just stood on the outside of the circle pounding away on the monsters. Nobody really moved, the monsters completely ignored the heroes attacking them, and it just became a race to see who could roll better dice results first.

It made me wonder if this is the downside of the quest system. There often seems to be little incentive for the OL to even bother attacking the heroes or vice versa.

Like I said, I actually quite like this game. I wonder if it's something we did wrong in that scenario or if that's just the nature of the game at times.
