Starting a campaign with some friends and want to try out the Steelcaster.Geomancer seems like a good mage class to take since the best skills are 1xp (leaving enough Xp to actually take the Steelcaster cards).
I'm thinking of using Sir Valadir, the guaranteed surge works well with Rune Grafting, in addition to the surge gained by attacking an enemy adjacent to a stone. Rune Grafting also brings his Knowledge to 4 for the off chance you find rune plate.
His heroic feat is pretty good as well and works with the stamina gained by iron blooded.
Having a hard time finding a hero that works well with Steelcaster.
