Thread: Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition):: General:: Why did they change the campaign book in recent print runs?

I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't easily find any thread addressing it.

I used to own Descent 2nd edition. Loved it. Played the heck out of it. Eventually, I passed it on. Now, about 3 years after off-loading it, a friend of mine picked up a copy and wanted me to play. Since I hadn't played with the app yet, I wanted to try it out, so I joined.

I come to find out that the Heirs of Blood campaign book was the campaign that was provided to him in the base copy of the game. This wasn't what was in my copy (bear in mind, I'm talking about 2nd ed. Descent in both cases here). I remember that the campaign in my older copy was The Shadow Rune...

Why did FFG swap this out? What was wrong with the Shadow rune? Also, from a business perspective, why would they mitigate their own independent sales of the Heirs of Blood by replacing it with the Shadow Rune? the whole switcheroo doesn't make much sense to me...
