Hello

I'm new to descent and as I am the one with the game, it comes down to me to be the overlord.

We have tried and started the game now three times (played the tutorial and two other missions twice) and now it is the third with a hero party of three (berserker, runemaster and necromancer).

I do not consider myself good as an overlord and trying to see what I'm doing "wrong". I'm not saying it in a way because I lose and I should win, but make it more fun for the hero players. Sometimes it feels that overlord has the upper hand by design (cause heroes run out of time) and not because of the plays that I make.

I don't know if it is intended, by to give an example, one player always plays the dwarf as berserker. The two times we played the Siege of Skytower, I choose Ettin for the Gatehouse. Both times the dwarf played first, started from the door nearest to the gatehouse in the armory, whent in with, move action, one fatigue, normal attack, heroic feet, using his iron battle axe and one-shot the Ettin. ( the dwarf is realy powerfull)
I get the feeling, that big monsters are not a threat, and can be downed easily in a single turn. On the other hand I can see why, if this is intented. (one other question, do monsters in that map are able to use the levers to open the gates, or even if Belthir is able to pick up Alric?

So as the above example, I'm guessing that maybe it is my monsters of choice not that good, or maybe their placement into the map?

I understand that the overall strategy and how I plan my moves is something I have to improve myself (and sometimes not to forget to play my cards)

So are there any general tips to improve on movement, monster of choice and placement, maybe if I should hold on cards or constantly play them etc.

Our next encounter will be Archive of Arrizon.
