Yesterday my local board game store had a preview event of Descent 2e. I went to play it, we were 5 people there so the group size was perfect for Descent. I played vanilla Descent 1e a lot, and I had read the rules on FFG website, so I took on the role of the overlord. We played through the introductory quest and then proceeded to play "A fat goblin", a quest that a lot of other players seem to have played as their first real quest as well.

I've read some people online complaining that the new art style is too cartoony (feels like the same thing that happened when the first videos/screens of Diablo III showed up, but personally I love the new art style. The rules are streamlined, and for the better. I would actually have to say that I can't find a single thing that I don't like about the second edition. The only thing that could be a problem is how well the game is balanced, which is hard to get a feeling of after only playing one real quest + the introduction quest.

When the store was about to close for the day, the owner announced that the highest bidder would get to buy the preview copy that we had played with, and that's how I ended up taking it home at the end of the day. I've taken photos of all the miniatures, and compared the sizes of them to the miniatures of Descent 1e. They're all available at my gallery, at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/images/user/400803/ultimadark

I've started to paint the miniatures now, here is the first one: (Note: I'm not a very skilled painter, the only miniatures I've ever painted are the ones from Descent 1e and Mansions of Madness)
