My group has played this quest twice now - once in a 2 player campaign, pre errata, and once in a 3 player game with the up to date errata. In the first encounter in both playthroughs the heroes were thoroughly destroyed with what seemed like no chance to ever succeed. In the current campaign, we chose it as the first Act II quest. We're playing as a Thief, Wildlander, and Geomancer and had up to this point done well, winning most of the quests.
My concern with this quest is that it comes off as a 'zerg-fest', where the only way for the heroes to succeed is to corpse rush to the tomb before the ray of light makes it there due to OL reinforcement rules (up to 3x per turn). The OL used Shadow Dragons, Ettins, and Flying Sentinels as his open groups. Our primary issue is that we cannot ever get out of the first hallway, as he blocks us with a red Act II dragon which does unholy amounts of damage and requires us to surge to make a hit.
Even when we do end up killing it, it can respawn immediately in front of us since it generally takes 4-5 attacks between our 6 actions to destroy it, so only 1 or 2 of us can move past the entrance. Even if we were to all make it past (which we did once), we were immediately wiped because we were flanked by the newly respawned dragon and a sentinel which both proc Flame Breath on a surge - and there isn't a whole lot of room to avoid it.
Just curious as to how everyone else's experiences were with this quest. Are we playing it incorrectly or is there a legitimate balance issue?
