Thread: Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition):: General:: First Impressions: Overly Simplified?

This question is directed at those who played first edition. Now, I haven't played a ton of second edition, just the intro scenario and "A Fat Goblin". But it seems overly simplified to me, with the removal of power dice, the change in dice in general (such as just having blue red and yellow "Combat" die, caught me off guard when I realized that blue was for more than just ranged attacks now), the removal of additional terrain effects (such as pitfalls and rocks as tokens), removal of placable traps (though many of these were an expansion to 1st edition), overall smaller maps, less monsters/heroes, search tokens in place of chests and placeable potions, ect...

I enjoy the game, but not as much as I enjoyed first edition (which I sadly no longer own), am I missing something? Does any of this stuff come back in the expansions? What are your impressions? Have they simplified it just a bit too much?
