Thread: Descent: Journeys in the Dark (second edition):: General:: Painting/theme for Well of Darkness bases?

So, I've been painting up the current party, and came up with a (I think) de(s)cent idea.
I had a hard time finding the hero miniatures as none of mine are painted, and there are something like 58 total iirc.
Anyway, my idea was to base the heroes by expansion/game "theme" and color code the edge of the base according to archetype.

Original D1E gets some easy dungeon tile looking stuff.
D2E I'm thinking the same, but with lighter/darker colors.
Lair of the Wyrm, well duh, rocks/tiles + a lava pool.
Then there's the original expansions.
Tomb of Ice, pretty simple, Ice/Snow base, which also nicely matches all the hero art.
Altar of Despair, also quite simple, all the character art has a very desert/aladdiny feel to them, so desert/sand base.

Then the big conundrum, to me, Well of Darkness. I can't rightly seem to find a overarching theme to either the heroes or the expansion as a whole.
Anyone got any bright ideas for basing them?

Oh and before you go "Why not just sort them in bags by archetype/expansion then!?". That's just boring and logical, shush

Examples of what I've tried out so far below, quality is shit due to using my phone camera, but you probably get the idea.
