We really want a dungeon crawler game. We want to kill stuff, drink beer, go up levels, get cool treasure, drink beer, complete missions, fight huge bad ass boss monsters and stuff. We want a board game because all but one of us (my brother's an actor) are too damned embarrassed to play an RPG and no one in our nerd herd would ever want to be a GM. Whenever we've tried in the past it's always my stupid ass that gets stuck doing it because I'm the herd's designated rules bitch. I don't necessarily mind it too much, but, I want to go up levels too goddamnit.
We outgrew Talisman (25 years ago), hate Prophecy, have been warned off Rune... uh, whatever. Scape? Warhammer Quest was too broken to play for more than a couple of months, etc... Descent looks SO cool, but, some asshole has to be the Overlord and that asshole is obviously going to end up being: This Guy.
*sigh*
So, none of us ever having played 1st, how hard would it be to play it with a programmed Overlord? Has anyone devised a variant to do this? Seems like a natural request, so, I'm assuming if there was a viable way to do this it'd have come in the box.
I'm grasping at straws.
